Lawn Care Services

Your path to a perfect lawn

Seasonal Treatments

If you are looking for a way to improve the health and appearance of your lawn, a year round lawn treatment program is essential.

No two lawns are the same and any one lawn can benefit from different fertiliser, feed, weed and moss treatments at different times, so we always consider what is best for your lawn at the time. We can then advise what is best for you, based around the 3 different seasonal lawn treatments we offer.

Our HEALTHY LAWN programme comprises 5 treatments over a year. They are a combination of:

  • different feeds depending on the time of year to give your lawn a boost of colour and nutrients;
  • moss treatment in spring and autumn/winter;
  • water conservator for the summer months to help your soil stay saturated for longer so you won't have to water as often; and
  • a professional quality selective weed treatment which targets only weeds but leaves grass alone.

Our ENHANCED programme includes the above 5 treatments plus scarification up to twice yearly to remove excess thatch from your lawn, ensure your lawn receives the water it requires and doesn’t feel spongy underfoot.

The COMPLETE programme includes the 5 treatments and the scarification, plus aeration up to twice yearly using a specialist machine to reduce soil compaction, help with drainage, oxygenate, and encourage the eco-system in your soil to feed your lawn naturally.

Lawn renovations

If your lawn has bare patches, lots of weeds or areas of heavy moss or thatch, rather than expensively re-turfing your lawn, why not let Definition Lawn Care renovate it. Your lawn will be scarified, aerated and overseeded using a top quality seed mix, with a fine grade top dressing applied to help the seeds germinate quickly . We will then carry out checks of your new lawn alongside our seasonal treatment programme to ensure your renovated lawn is progressing as expected and rectify any issues promptly.

Lawn Scarification

Scarification is a mechanical process that removes thatch build-up from your lawn. Thatch is a layer of dead grass that forms naturally on the surface of the ground throughout the year. Excessive thatch prevents your lawn from getting the water, oxygen and nutrients which it needs to grow and thrive. Thatch is often a cause of lawn discolouration.

Our scarification service is usually carried out in spring and autumn but lawns can also benefit from gentle scarification at other times too.

Lawn Aeration

Lawn aeration is the mechanical process of creating small holes in the soil to allow air, water, and nutrients to penetrate the root zone. This is an important part of lawn care, especially in the UK where lawns are often subjected to heavy rainfall and clay-rich soils.

If you are looking for a way to improve the health and appearance of your lawn, aeration is a great option. Our lawn aeration services are fast, efficient, and affordable.

Overseeding

Overseeding is the process of sowing new grass seed on an existing lawn and is a more cost effective and environmentally friendly alternative to re-turfing. Overseeding can be either just on isolated bare areas or across the whole lawn.

The benefits of overseeding include:
  • thicker lawn
  • bare patches filled in
  • new grass varieties introduced
  • improved drought tolerance
  • reduced disease and pest damage

Organic top dressing

Definition Lawn Care only uses the best British made peat-free organic top dressings to help create a level surface, add nutrients into your soil and improve the fertility and drainage of your lawn. This encourages healthy shoots and improves the existing soil structure. Top dressing can also be used for any re-seeding, giving the new seeds a light covering of soil to help them germinate quickly and protect them from wind, rain and birds

Moss and Weed Control

Lawn weeds usually take over a lawn that is either bare or thinly sowed. You could individually remove each weed, however, this is time-consuming and rarely entirely effective. Our seasonal treatments help keep weeds at bay before they can establish in your lawn by using a professional quality selective weed killer which targets only the weeds and not the grass.*

Moss can be especially problematic in the UK, where the climate is often damp and humid. Moss can compete with grass for water and nutrients, and it can also make your lawn look unkempt and unsightly.

Our moss and weed control service can help you to get rid of moss and weeds from your lawn and prevent them from coming back. This results in a thicker, greener, healthier and more attractive lawn.

* organic alternatives can be discussed.

Mowing

If you enjoy the look of a neatly trimmed and edged lawn but either you do not enjoy mowing lawns as much as we do or are unable or do not have time to mow then we are here to help.

A neatly mown lawn does not only look beautiful. Regular mowing with sharp blades set at the correct height actually encourages the grass to grow thicker and denser, which helps to prevent weed growth and insect infestations. So it is one of the simplest, treatment-free jobs any garden lover can do to encourage a thick, lush lawn.

FAQ

Our service is as ethical and ecological as possible, so you can be confident your lawn is not unnecessarily harming the environment. We always select products which are effective whilst causing minimal harm to the natural environment and we use organics where possible. We always avoid the temptation of over-feeding for short term results. We can let you know when more environmentally-friendly alternatives are available for any of our services.

We have the best equipment for the job, so you can just relax and enjoy your lawn. Neil has City and Guilds land based NPTC qualifications and many years’ experience in garden lawn care and treatments. We are proud to be a member of the UK Lawn Care Association. As a member, Definition Lawn Care agrees to follow a ‘code of practice’ designed to give you the confidence to trust that your lawn is in safe hands. And we hold a waste transport licence for garden waste.

We provide ongoing lawn health checks and advice from the same person on every visit, so we get to know what you want and how your lawn behaves.

Yes, of course. We have public liability cover, so if there is an unfortunate accident you can have the peace of mind that we have the cover there to make things right. And Neil is DBS checked to give you peace of mind that your property and, more importantly you, are safe in our hands.

Absolutely. Everything we use to improve your lawn is fully tested and licensed and we leave the lawn useable within 90 minutes of application.

We always make contact with you ahead of our visits and there is no need to stay home. All we ask is that we have ready access to your lawn and there are no obstructions, toys/furniture or dog deposits.

Yes, you can, but it is best to wait until the lawn is dry after liquid treatments – especially if you’ve had a moss control.

All plants need water. If we are in a period of drought watering is important – please ask for our watering guide.

Most of our customers prefer to use Direct Debit as it proves to be the most efficient way to pay. You can also pay by bank transfer or with cash. We prefer not to take cheques.

Certainly not. We provide a no-commitment service which you can stop at any time subject to our Ts&Cs.

Definitely not. We are proud to be independent and local, so we can tailor our service to your needs, free from the constraints of rigid treatment schedules of glossy franchise lawn care businesses.

Franchised businesses struggle to provide a truly personalised service simply because of the volumes they work at and would find it difficult to be as individually invested as we are in our customers and their lawns. We are constantly reviewing, testing and adapting new treatments for our customers and whilst we may not be as ‘cheap’ as our franchise competitors, we can promise you that we offer the best value.
